I said the other day that I had family with their
shoes by the door ready to go. Well, yesterday
morning, a family member that who has been doggedly
researching this family with me drove to the cemetery.
He found it using information and directions you all
provided. He said the Pond Creek Road exit simply says
"Philadelphia" and not Pond Creek Road, but that the
exit actually does put you right onto Pond Creek Road.
He found no signs for New Hope Road, but the church
itself has erected a sign that directs you to it. It's
now called New Hope _United_ Methodist Church.

My relative says that it's in a beautiful rural area,
undoubtedly not much different from the way it was 100
years ago. The church is a tiny white frame one with
its cemetery well kept. About a dozen of the stones
are weathered and indecipherable, and he's convinced
that Dicy's is likely one of those.

He has photographed what he found and will be sending
me some copies. We're disappointed, of course, that he
couldn't walk right up to her grave, but we're very
grateful that we've placed its location. Thanks to
every one of you who helped. You've made us very
happy.

I was wrong, it is the one near Sweetwater not Oak
Grove Rd. We were
over there taking photos of Civil War stones. Our
Monroe Cem. book list
both cemeteries, but I noticed Loudon did have the
Civil War dead listed
from that cem. in Loudon. One of those weird things.
It's some
beautiful scenery that way. Keep in mind Loudon Co.
was formed in 1870
from Monroe, Roane, and Blount Cos. 1880 is their
first census. Makes
researching a challenge. Joy

was Re: Are The reason that you can't find it in
Monroe
County....... Is that believe it or not it is listed
in
Loudon County! It is in one of those spots that if you
drive a short piece out the road you will be in a
different County. It is actually in Philadelphia,
Tennessee. ... You go down interstate 75 South.
Get off at the Oakland Road, Sweetwater Exit turn
right, and in just a very short distance, watch for
the sign, on the left. [Betty G]

The New Hope Methodist Church and cemetery are
actually located in Loudon County, TN, near the Monroe
County line. They are on New Hope Church Road.
Directions are: Get off I 75 at Pond Creek
Road west and turn left on New Hope Church Road.

That is the cemetery off Oak Grove
Rd. Maybe when I get back from my vacation, I can get
over there and take a photo of the stone. Tenn. death
certs. weren't kept till 1908 but it wasn't until 1914
they gave parents' names. I've looked at the index of
obits in the Madisonville paper that Glenn did and she
isn't shown, however there are many missing papers.
