I'm trying to find the parents of James Yates, born ca 1796 in SC. He
appears first in Jackson County, FL between 1825 and 1827. He's listed on a
1827 Petition from Jackson Co. but he was not listed on an 1824 or 1825
Petition from the same county. He first married to Amey Pridgeon in Wayne
Co., GA (county marriage listing says Anna Priggins in 1820) according to his
second wife Malinda Reals in a pension application. Amey was from nearby
Glynn Co., GA. She died around 1828 re: Malinda. His first listed child was
Gadi Yates born in Jackson in 1833. Gadi was followed by Levi 1836, Jordan
1838, Amey 1841, James Archibald 1843, Elizabeth 1848, Martha 1850, Mary
1852, Nancy 1855, and Sarilda 1858.
A key characteristic of the males is that they had middle names that started
with an "A," I believe. I believe they are related to the Yates families
from the Charleston, SC area but have no proof. I believe that James' father
was either Jeremiah A. Yates or a Seth Yates. Jeremiah had two sons born in
the right time period and Seth had one. James may have been a member of
Alston's 3rd Regiment of the SC Militia during the War of 1812. The 3rd was
responsible for guarding the Charleston Harbor.
Can anyone shed some light on this information?
