At the risk of prolonging this debate,I must take exception to some of the
comments that would appear to have been made privately to Gary.
One of the great joys of the internet is that it is still pretty democratic.
Not EVERYONE has a great command of the English language, many because of
conditions such as dyslexia. Dyslexic people, usually extreemly intellegent
and talented, suffer huge discrimination and lack of confidence.
My father went to Coventry Exhall Grange blind school in the 50's. In those
days, if you were partially sighted, you learnt braille, NOT written
language. He was not taught to read and write until he was a teenager. His
spelling and grammer are still poor, yet he is an intellegent man who uses
the internet to communicate. Have such insulting messages been sent to him,
I wonder?
Not EVERYONE who subscribes to these list uses English as a first language.
Do they get nasty, private reprimands????
I'm the world's worst typist. It takes me hours to correct all my mistakes,
I'd rather not do that when typing a chatty email to someone but I check and
triple check my research notes.
Please, can we all use a little tolerance here? What is important is that we
all share in a spirit of goodwill. If individuals get privately or publicly
flamed for not expressing themselves "Correctly" we will all be poorer for
it.
As for Gary's T.B. note, I found it interesting and will follow it up. If it
turns out to be a contentious piece of information, I won't slag him off for
sharing what he considered to be a helpful snippit of info.
kind regards,

Thank you Nettie for writing so well what I wanted to say!

though we supposedly share a common language).
