Hello, everyone, I am looking forward to the Ottawa event. All of my 5 children are coming (with 4 in-laws) and it should be great fun. Before that I am off on holiday, leaving March 20th, for Portugal, Holland, France and England!! Going with my daughter and her husband. We will be visiting family in both England and Holland, and have a condo in Portugal for the first 10 days. Will be back April 21st.
I have always enjoyed the re runs of Dads Army, about the Home Guard, and just happened upon the film that preceded the series. I found myself being reminded of those frightening post Dunkirk days, when we expected to be invaded, and the horrible sound of the sirens. I caught a bit of another movie the other day - don't know what it was called - but Deborah Kerr was in it. Again it was a memory jogger. Do you remember those surface water tanks, put in to cope with incendiaries? Well, they showed one, and I was back in poor old London, with all the bomb damage. I worked on Farringdon Street, just around the corner from St.Pauls and there were few undamaged buildings in that area - and many vacant bomb sites. Soon, there will be none of us left with the first hand memories of those momentous times, but we will never forget in our lifetimes.Maybe we should be writing our recollections down!! Cheers, Joan
