How privileged I realize we are as I think over events of the past year.
I was not able to attend San Antonio Reunion but did make it to
Saskatchewan in Canada to see the beautiful Bev's exhibition of her
paintings.
Several other wonderful people have been mentioned on the list already
who 'champion' the War Brides in their efforts by seeking sailing ships
and dates, lost relatives, information on the military, pictures, web
sites with pictures and articles they collect and record on our behalf.
Especially appreciated are the sons and daughters of War Brides who help
to keep this list going with their enthusiastic and supportive e-mails.
We love you too!
Even though I was unable to go to Halifax, I was able to make the trip
vicariously through the efforts of each of you who wrote to keep us
informed about that once-in-a-lifetime return journey. How wonderful it
all was.
I am trying to think how I can get to Ottawa in May for the opening
of Bev's exhibition at the Canadian War Museum on Canadian Mother's Day.
I shall have to jump off a plane from San Diego (where I am going for
Cinco de Mayo) and hop another plane to Ottawa within the week. It will
be an exciting time. Hope it all works out.
I have just watched a short film about Bev's paintings, and am quite
overcome at her efforts to record us as we were in all of our youthful
innocence as beautiful brides. We were a specific group of young women
who participated in a mass movement to new lands at a specific time in
history. "One Way Passage" is her tribute to us. May her work live on
long beyond us.
Please do try to make it to Ottawa.
My very best wishes to all of you for a wonderful Christmas and a Great
New Year - may all your plans and dreams come true!
Love, Hazel
