Subject: [WARBRIDES] Remembering our dads...

Seeing that subject line reminded me that I was a Hostess at An American
Red Cross London for a while toward the end of the war.
To become a hostess, you had to be investigated, the American Government
was particularly careful to make sure that no "Piccadilly Lilies" had
access to the club.
Our backgrounds were checked at home and at our work. Special badges
were issued ( I still have mine).
We loved "Rainbow Corner". There was a large sweeping staircase that led
up to the ballroom above where we delighted in dancing to and hearing
the Big Bands. We never did get to see/hear Glen Miller, but other bands
were marvelous.
The GIs could ask us to dance or sit and talk with us. No dating was
allowed.
Maybe that is why I married the only Canadian I went out with!
Funny old world, isn't it?
Love on Remembrance and Veterans Day - maybe I danced with your Dad!
