Sixty years ago they were among thousands of young European women, most from
Britain, who boarded overcrowded vessels bound for Canada and a new life.
Sunday, about 40 war brides from Sault Ste. Marie to Thessalon gathered at
the Royal Canadian Legion in the Sault for high tea in recognition of the
60th anniversary of the three-year flood of war brides into Canada.
"These women are all in the 80s now and need to be remembered and honoured,"
said Carol Gunn, a driving force behind the gathering hosted by the Canadian
Legion.
