It was August 1946 and Patricia Butts was a young war bride who had just
landed with her four-month-old daughter at Pier 21 in Halifax. Her husband,
Ted, who she hadn't seen for two months, waited on the dock with his mother
and father, both salt-of-the-earth Nova Scotians eager to meet their
daughter-in-law and new grandchild.
