A fresh look at Canadian history
The story of Canada's 'War Brides' is put to music

It was back in the spring of this year when Liz Auston began toying with the
idea of creating something new for the Scugog Choral Society's upcoming fall
show season.

When she mentioned it to her mother, Ann Gage, her mom suggested she write
the script for a musical on War Brides.

"My grandmother, Sarah Cooper (nee Crawford), was a Canadian war bride and
she always spoke so positively about her life in Canada," Mrs. Auston said.

So, when she returned home to Port Perry and began looking up information in
countless books and on the internet, she soon realized 2006 was a
significant anniversary for the largest, most unique immigration endeavour
ever to be arranged by the Canadian government.
