Enjoyed your e-mail, thank you.
It provided a laugh when we consider the availability of goods today.
During the war years a friend of mine decided to knit a dress with a type of
silk that she managed to obtain without coupons. The dress was a lacy
design and looked lovely. My friend wore the dress on a date. By the time
she had returned home the dress had grown. Determined not to admit defeat
my friend taped the dress from waist to hem down the various seams. It
looked fine . Once again the dress was worn for an evening out.
Unfortunately, when my friend returned home this time the dress had a
scalloped hem. That was it! she hung the dress up for sale in her Mother's
corner shop. It was quickly purchased and we awaited a complaint. Nothing!
we used to laugh imagining the dress being worn as a nightdress, IK
