Dorchester war bride reflects on journey to Canada

Over 60 years ago, a peculiar thing occurred in a war-ravaged Europe. With
the German army spreading like wildfire through Europe, toppling countries
and enacting intense occupations, the formerly British colony of Canada made
a bold move to enter the war and give aid to their once fellow countrymen.
With that move, something miraculous happened as Canadian soldiers landed on
the shores of Britain to begin deployment into Europe. Through the ravages
of war, through the turmoil of a holocaust, tens of thousands found love in
a time of great desolation.
For Doris MacDonald of Dorchester, a costly war ended with love at first
sight.
"I met my husband just after the war," says MacDonald, who was at the time
Doris Jones.
