It was wonderful to be among so many of Ontario's war brides on June 13th in
Toronto. Those responsible in government and on staff, as well as Linda
Granfield (Brass Buttons and Silver Horseshoes) are to be congratulated for
a memorable afternoon at Queen's Park....two receptions rooms filled to
over-flowing! For the trip from London and the surrounding area I had no
problem gathering together two full buses of war brides, one war groom who
married a Canadian servicewoman and settled in Canada, and several family
members who accompanied their mothers. What a pleasure it was to meet
everyone! Still others from the area drove to the event. The numbers wishing
to attend took the organizers by surprise.



A highlight was hearing the lovely voice of war bride Peggy Bailey who sang
"We'll Meet Again" and "The White Cliffs of Dover". It was a great day.

A legacy of love was celebrated Tuesday when the province officially

declared 2006 the Year of the War Bride in Ontario.



The announcement, made by Minister Jim Bradley, minister responsible for

seniors, brought a thunder of applause from the Ontario Legislature

galleries, where several S, D and G war brides sat waiting.
