Beverly Tosh's "Herstory: War Brides"

Monday February 13, 2006

"On the eve of St. Valentine's Day, artist Bev Tosh will share war bride
stories of women who married Canadian servicemen in Europe during WW II. The
wives were either married previously or during the war and upon the
conclusion, they gained free travel passage on ships to their husband's
homeland. This slide presentation is based on those love stories set in
wartime.

Bev Tosh was inspired by her mother, a war bride, and devoted her time to
interview war brides all over the world to gain perspective and insight on
their love stories and way of life. As a tribute to her inspirations,
Beverly Tosh painted a very remarkable portrait of her mother as a young war
bride. This beautiful piece of artwork, which hangs in the Canadian War
Museum in Ottawa, was the start of a passionate pursuit to commemorate all
war brides through her artwork and is a dedication to the people she has
learned to appreciate through this project: the war brides and their
families. Come down and join the sharing of these stories for a new and
exciting experience.
