Hi, I think the personal stamp route is a great idea. I can see them all
over the country. And although I would like to think Canada Post would
develop a war bride stamp. I believe we got everything out of them last year
with the envelope and that will be the end of it for them. I worked on the
envelope project as a consultant to Canada Post. That envelope took at least
two years of letter writing, cajoling and persuasion by various people,
including myself, Michelle Rusk, Bev Tosh, and Jean Spear. Once it became
clear in September 2004 that Canada Post was actually going to do something,
I tried to convince the powers to launch a stamp to mark the 60th
anniversary 1946-2006 but I was outvoted by people who make the decisons at
Canada Post . Although I love the envelope, I believe it got lost in the
Year of the Veteran celebrations. As you know, it was released with not a
great deal of fanfare last May 8, under the umbrella of Year of the Veteran
and in direct competition with the opening of the War Museum. There was just
too much going on for it to get a lot of publicity. And even though the
event at the Governor Generals on June 30 was beautiful, it was
comparatively small scale. As recently as two days ago I spoke to a war
bride in Halifax who told me that she tried to get an envelope and the
person she was speaking to at Canada Post didn't have clue what she was
talking about. Now that is disappointing. I also heard that they only
printed a limited number of envelopes and that they are no longer available,
but I am not sure if that is true. Does anybody know? In any case, I
purchased about 20 when they first came out because I wasn't taking any
chances.

I like the idea of creating your own war bride stamps. It would be nice if
Canada Post released a war bride stamp but it would also be nice to have
your own personal one, too.

I was just online at Canada Post http://www.canadapost.com/splash.asp and
found that they also have create a stamp on their web site, too. You can
check it out at
https://www.picturepostage.ca/picpostageprod/DispatcherServlet?op=welcome_public&lang=ENGLISH

If you can't create your own stamp online, they also have a form (downloaded
by Adobe reader) with a postal address to send your photo to and have a
sheet of stamps made for you. Be sure to read the terms and conditions
before you do.
