60 years ago on Jan the 26th the S. S. Argentina left Southampton, England with 456 British warbrides and their 170 babies to be reunited with their American husbands in the United States.
Three days out the ship ran into a rough Atlantic storm and Capt.Simmons went 500 miles off course to avoid the storm. The Argentina arrived a day late on Monday, Feb 4th 1946 instead of Sunday the 3rd.
On approaching American waters it ran into an ice storm and arrived covered in ice.
However all this was forgotten once the brides were reunited with their husbands.
Through the years I have tried to keep contact with the Argentina brides but only a few responded.
Today I would like to wish all those who travelled on the Argentina a Happy Anniversary and the best of the New Year.
