I am surprised to see this database on War brides from the War Museum [found it tonight 1JUNE 2005]:
http://collections.civilisations.ca/warclip/pages/warclip/ResultsList.php?QueryName=WarclipCustomQueryForm&WarclipCounter=WarclipCounter&RelevanceRanking=WarclipRelevanceRanking&lang=0&any=AdmWebMetadata&subject=WarSubjectMetaData&headline=WarHeadline&title=ObjTitle&SearchWord=war+brides&QueryWord=all&QueryOption=any&StartAt=81
and I am waiting to see the photo database coming from Imperial War Museum, announced earlier this year.

Hi Garth, I know of two war brides who were on this sailing of the
Aquitania, both have since passed away. In fact, just about two months ago
I was looking at their names on the passenger list for this trip. If I
recall, it arrived in Halifax on a Monday or Tuesday morning.
This particular sailing would have been well covered in the Ontario
newspapers. If you are so inclined, you may want to go to your local library
and look up the Ontario newspapers of the period, paying particular
attention to the week of May 20-27, 1946. Since your mother was destined to
Ontario, her name would have appeared in what they called the "Nominal
Rolls" of war brides and their children who were coming to Canada on the War
Bride ships. The newspapers would print the Nominal Rolls, which included
the woman's name, children's name(s), her husband's name, her destination in
Ontario, etc. There was no Privacy Act back then so everything was printed
in the newspapers: after all, it was the first good news after six long
years of war. The passenger lists can be obtained separately.
