There is a fairly readable history of the Canadian Italian campaign :
The D-Day Dodgers by Daniel G. Dancocks -- you might find it interesting
if you haven't read it -- most Canadian libraries probably have a copy.
The title of the book derives from the song of that name -- supposedly
Lady Astor commented that the Canadian troops slogging through Italy
were actually dodging the D-Day invasion . . .you can find the song on
the net using google.
The cemetery at Agira is, if I remember correctly, the only Commonwealth
war cemetery that contains only Canadian War Dead. Sadly, hen I visited
it in 1998 the visitors book had almost no Canadian visitors' entries.
There were some from Germany and France. The local Sicilians knew little
about the cemetery. It is sad that such a remote site contains the
bodies of so many very young Canadian soldiers.
