I was an English teacher. You get an A+ for your description of the
horror of a prairie winter so long ago. Mary Gair and I have just
experienced that kind of weather in Alberta . Last week the temperature
dropped to minus 34C one night, reminding me of that scene in the movie
"Dr. Zhivago" where everything is still, frozen and white. We have 4 to
5 foot high piles of snow formed by drifts and shovelled snow. Severe
weather always fills me with fear for travellers, especially our own and
the creatures out in the cold. Thank you Joan for your wonderfully
descriptive writing. You are fortunate that you were able to go to a
better clime.
Iris is getting 'snowed on' too in the Kootenays!
I am writing to 2 Belgian War Brides at the moment; one in Colorado and
one in Nebraska. We are reminiscing about the V1 and V2 rockets that
rained down on our countries during the war.
Re: UK Pension. I will apply again and ask about 'topping up', as has
been suggested. I doubt that I will be able to convince anyone over
there to start paying me a pension so late in my life, however, I am
going to apply on principle. I love upsetting government departments,
it keeps them busy running in circles! Thank you Iris for the address.
Best to all,
Hazel
