Barb, if you arrived on the Mauretania with your mother in December 1944,
there may not have been a public record of it in the newspapers as the war
was still on and it would have been considered "secret". War brides who
arrived on ships after the war were gleefully noted in every newspaper
across the country, starting in Halifax. There were long front page lists
with the war bride's name, children's names, husband's name, port of
departure, port of arrival and destination in Canada. It's actually quite
fascinating to read and to see what was going on in the world at the time.
It sure was an interesting time to be alive.
