Subject: Re: [WarBrides] Transcribing Passenger Lists Project Idea

Hi Robert and Delia, I am glad that you are interested in transcribing the
passenger lists. I think this is a project which requires some coordination
and since I have already developed a proposal about this exact idea we
could use it as the basis of an initiative that unites people from all over
Canada and the UK in one common goal - to provide the passenger lists of the
43,454 WWII Canadian war brides who came to Canada from 1942-1948.

I think you'd agree that this should be done in the most efficient manner so
that we can put all our heads together and maximize the effort. If anyone is
interested in transcribing the passenger lists from the original microfilm,
I'd like to hear from them. I am willing to spend some time in front of a
microfilm reader/copier photocopying these, and coordinating the effort of
others who can do the same thing in other locations where they have access
to a microfilm reader / copier , if we can round up enough volunteers to
transcribe the names etc.

Please let me know what you think of this idea because I have had a number
of people contact me about this separately and I'd like to make it a team
effort, like has been done for the UK Census. In my opinion, this is an idea
which is long overdue - nearly 60 years in fact!!

Melynda
