Hello All War Brides,
I thought as many did that once I had married a Canadian soldier I would automatically become a Cnadian, but not so. When we planned on going back to England for a visit (after 23 years), I applied for a passport but I had to fill out quite a few papers to prove I was a Canadian, I received a card with my picture on it that I carry with me to this day.
About living in England. When we went back the first time I could have stayed there, but my children and grand children were here. After going back a couple of more times I found that I wouldn't want to live in England again. It isn't because I didn't love it because I still do but my home was Canada now. I missed my family most of all, still do although we keep in touch by e-mail, phone and letters.
My mother-in-law wasn't what a person would call that friendly, she was my husband's step mother, the rest of the family were fine to me, but at time my mother-in-law could be a bit nasty.
Anyway I have a good life and have been married for 61 years.
Mary
