Hello all!
The e-mail from Agnes caught my eye when she mentioned coming over on
the Queen Mary in March 1946 to the USA.
Bells started ringing because I know trhat several 'girls' in our War
Brides club also came on the Queen Mary to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Not all were in attendance at our meeting yesterday due to extreme heat
wave temperatures and more strokes, illnesses and disabilities.
Of the 16 who were there I asked the ones who came on the 'Queen" what
their sailing or arrival dates were at Halifax as Canadian 'brides'.
One arrived on May 28, 1946 - she was from Hounslow, Middlesex. Eng.
One left on July 1946 - she was from London.
One arrived 4th July 1946 - she left 29/30 June, 1946. She is fromn
Ireland/Surrey, England.
One left in August, 1946 from Amsterdam, Holland.
It makes me wonder whether the ship made stops at Halifax and then went
on to USA or made alternate trips. A bit of a puzzle because the dates
are so close. I know the ships plied back and forth until all of the
women and children were delivered to their respective ports.
When I brought up the question of 'sides' on the ship someone suggested
that she might have still had camouflage painted sides on her.
Agnes - did your mother and you sail from Southampton or some other
port? And did you arrive in New York?
I do not know of any passenger lists at this point. I am wondering what
may be in the British Queen Mary Archives.
God Bless all of you 'kids' are who remembering/honoring your War Bride
mothers.
Hazel
