Hi Diane:

My 'Aunt' Nellie is a warbride. She was married to a Canadian soldier,
a very close friend of my father, who was killed in Sicily. Her son, by
him, was born a few months later. She went to Canada after the war to
meet and stay with the family, but then returned to England. Later the
brother of her husband went to London to study and they ended up married
and, back in Canada, she had three more children.

Aunt Nellie has been active in the political scene in Canada and was (I
understand) influential in gaining various rights for war widows and
children.

She was from Bromley and I recognize the Hayes name. Her family were
grocers, I believe. I remember that my father was a little surprised
when he arrived in England in Jan '41 to find that his best friend was
wearing civies (not allowed in wartime!) and tending the grocery store.
