Ivy and Joni, enjoying reading your e-mails about Preston and the
"Lassie
from Lancashire", my mother in law was from Preston and my Mum from
Wigan,
heard many stories about both places. I also had the opportunity to
visit
some years ago with my mum and thoroughly enjoyed it. Both were in the
WAAF
and both were war brides. Small world isn't it. Trying to talk mum
into
letting us video tape her life history but she is very reluctant. We
don't
know a whole lot about her relatives in England as she was an only child
and
her parents died many many years ago.
Take care

Suzanne Lalonde

Joni, Thank you for your reply. The close friend I have in Preston is
unfortunately now in a Nursing Home, but, she did live on Green Lane.
Her
husband belonged to the local Police Force, Davis was their surname. I
don't know exactly where my friend in the Hosp. Auxiliary lived in
Preston
before she came to Canada, due to Sars, I no longer enjoy her company
each
Monday. I will ask her when we meet again, which I hope will be soon.
The
convenor who organizes the Group I belong to at the Hosp. is from
Yorkshire, so we keep up The war of the Roses, all in fun!.
Yes, I remember the Dr. Ruxton murder.
I miss the Lakes, when we were young we cycled from Lancaster. When I
visit now we travel by car and I just drink in the beauty and
peacefulness
of the countryside. Thank goodness for " The friends of the Lakes"
Beatrice Potter and all those who have aided in preserving all aspects
of
the Lakes.
When I feel "blue" I recall Wordsworth's poem
"Daffodils" it contains the essence of my special place in England .
Ivy.
