I wondered if anyone might be able to help with a story that I'm after for a
television history documentary. We are always looking for strong characters
who have lived interesting lives and can tell a story well.

We specialise in social history programmes based on life stories and archive
film and have made a number of high profile, award-winning series. Most
recently there was MARRIED LOVE (2002 for Channel 4, which won a Royal
Television Society Award), SOME LIKED IT HOT (2001 for ITV, which documented
the history of the British on holiday), GREEN AND PLEASANT LAND (1999, a
major series C4 looking at country life in Britain) and VETERANS:THE LAST
SURVIVORS OF THE GREAT WAR (this was a BBC1 series marking the eightieth
anniversary of the end of the First World War using the memories of the last
soldiers alive). We are currently making a six part television series in the
UK with The British Empire and Commonwealth Museum, to be shown on
television early next year.

Provisionally titled, A JOURNEY ACROSS THE SEA, the programmes will explore
the influence that the British Empire and Commonwealth has had on residents
of the South West of England throughout the 20th Century. Four of the
programmes will look at immigration to the region, and two will focus on
emigration. Perhaps you emigrated from the South West of England as a
Canadian war bride? Or maybe you emigrated to the South West of England from
Canada? Maybe you have a story completely separate to those but that we
might find of interest? At this stage we do not know whether our budget will
stretch to a trip overseas to film potential interviewees, so if anyone is
actually returning to, or now based in, the UK we would be especially
interested. Whether you are returning or not though, the programmes will
rely on the personal memories of people, and therefore I am very keen to
talk to or hear from, as many people as possible in the course of my
research. We are wanting to hear these stories to add to our own general
research as well as to find potential interviewees so PLEASE GET IN TOUCH!

Best Wishes,
Clair Titley
