Even though it is before my usual time period of clothing research, I
have seen enough examples of earlier fashions to say it was far more
likely to date from the 1804-10 period. He looks as if he stepped out of
a Jane Austen novel, but decades away from Colonial America. There was a
revelation in fashions for both genders as well as two political
revolutions between the two periods so the difference between the two is
striking.
