Subject: [VINTAGE-PHOTOS] Seeking help in identification of the time periodof a miniature portrait
Date: Tue, 05 Dec 2006 15:24:12 -0500
I realize this list generally deals with photos, but thought there would be some expertise among the regular subscribers regarding vintage men's fashions to be able to date the miniature. I can't take the locket apart to look for a date since I don't have possession of it, just a photo image of it.
Seeking help in an area in which I have no expertise. I have a
miniature portrait of one of my wife's ancestors. The indications are
excellant that it is one of two possible men, a father or his son, based
on the chain of possession over the years. However, the exact story has
apparently been lost/changed/distorted/etc to the point where no one can
be certain which individual is depicted. I had an idea that the
subject's manner and style of dress may provide the answer as to the
time period.
The portrait may be viewed on my website at:

If the man's costume is well defined enough to choose one time period
over the other, I'd like to hear your opinions. Please e-mail me your
ideas.
Thanks for your time.
