Subject: Abe Major to be executed July 7, 1899

I have a question about a Abe Major who was to be executed July 7, 1899, by firring squad. First this person is not part of my family, but in doing some research on Mt. View Cemetery, in Oakland California, I came across his father is buried there after being hung, in Oakland, in about 1884. So today went I was looking at a Oakland paper for May of 1899, saw a story on Abe Major, and that he was to be shot. I checked a Salt Lake paper for July 6-9, 1899 and saw no story on him being shot. So was wondering if it happen.
