Subject: [UTAH] Utah Death Index - Looking for possible death in San Juan County
Date: Thu, 12 Sep 2002 22:24:34 -0500
Could someone on this list advise me if Utah has a death index?
I am trying to determine if a father/son duo may have died in Utah. Their names were John Casner (b.1822 MO) and his son John Lewis/Luke/Lou/Lew Casner (b.1851 IA).
I know they were alive in June, 1902. I have not located them on the census for 1910 in any state west of the Mississippi River (they traveled all over the west).
The story goes that the son, John Lewis Casner (b.1851 IA) died in January, 1903 "on the banks of the San Juan River of a heart attack while hunting quail". Unfortunately, I do not know which San Juan River nor in what state. No living descendant has a clue as to what became of the father.
If Utah does not have a death index, did each county keep a record of deaths for the time frame 1900-1910? If each county did, is there someone on this list who would be so kind to check the Courthouse of San Juan County to see if either of the father/son duo might be listed there.
Thank you for any information.
