Good Morning,

I am new to this list but need some help. Most of the links on the Utah site
do NOT work, so I am going to try this list. I am looking for some
information on the Military Units that were in Utah in 1856. In specifics,
Brigadier General Clarke; Major J. H. Carleton, 1st Dragoons; and possibly
Capt. R. Campbell.
My ggGrandfather, William GROVES served with the US Army as a scout at the
time of the "Mountain Meadows Massacre." He was sent there to help clean up
afterwards. He may have served under the last name of JACKMAN.
Can any one tell me just WHERE the Army was stationed at that time in Utah?
What County? City, Territory? Anything will help.
My ggGrandfather made his Declaration of Intent for US Citizenship there in
Utah Territory in 1858. I have that paper.
