PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE AND KEEP IT FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

Please feel free to forward this to anyone you feel may be interested in
joining. Of course the more people we have the more help we will be for each
other.

What ever you did to subscribe to this list you succeeded, PALEEZE DO NOT
decide that you can't figure out how to unsubscribe and ask me to do it,
Also PLEASE DO NOT send pleas to the list begging to be removed. I am sorry
to be so firm on this but I am getting over 100 subscriptions a day, a ton
of bounced messages (that I reply to) and just don't have time for
unsubscribing everyone who asks. If I see you are having trouble I will do
my best to help, just please try to do it yourself first. The instructions
for unsubscribing are listed below.

You are currently subscribed in "mail mode", which means that you will
receive every posting made to XX-CENSUS-LOOKUP (XX is a substitute for the
state abbreviation) as a separate e-mail. The directions on how to change
to digest mode are given below.

I highly recommend that you subscribe in DIGEST mode, most of the lists are
proving to very high volume. (Instructions below)

How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and
sent to you together as a single large message). There are two
steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to
(Remove the XX and replace it with
your state abbreviation, see below) to discontinue mail mode. Second, send
the command "subscribe" to to start
receiving digests.

Established 11 October 2000

Guidelines for posting to the lists:
EMAIL SUBJECT LINES:
COUNTY,YEAR,SURNAME

NO FLAMING or you will be unsubbed without notice. By this I mean not only
being rude or mean to each other but there will be NO and I do mean NO
debating here about the Census Projects. This list is for everyone who wants
to research.

NO General requests such as "all Smiths in all counties"
Be specific, Name the County, Family you are looking for and also the year.
Try to supply as much info as possible.

LIMIT your requests to ONE PER CENSUS YEAR and SURNAME

My Mama taught me that Thank you and Please are always nice too :)

MOST IMPORTANTLY Hang in there and don't
get discouraged if your not answered right away, these lists will be a great
asset to our research as they continue to grow. I am encouraging everyone to
send this email to their surname and county mailing lists as well as to our
cousins. Finally, If you have the material to help a fellow researcher,

A few people have emailed me asking how to sign up for the new
lists and what to do.

The XX is to be removed and the two letter abbreviation for the state
you are looking in added in its place.

Examples:








2. So, send an email to the one of your choice (make sure to have the
state). Do not put anything in the subject line. In the body of the email
write only:

subscribe

Then send it on :)

3. POSTING to the new census lists:

A. Send it to (supply the two letter state
code for the XX again)

B: Subject line MUST have the following:
County/Year/Surname

Example: Saginaw/1850/Smith


C: In the body of the email:

List whom you are looking for.
Supply as much information as you can.
Birthplace, ages, occupation, etc.

D: Mail it on!
