With regards to the idea of including this in existing Genealogical Events
Project, Joe Markovich, the Genealogical Events Project Coordinator, has
indicated that he is "ready to help out here if this idea is officially
adopted."

Thanks,

Just a few questions. . .

The USGenWeb Project has a Genealogical Events Project under Special
Projects:
http://genevents.genwebsite.org/
Is this something that would be better incorporated here to match volunteers
with events? Seems like the Genealogical Events Project could be expanded a
little to include this instead of creating a new site/page in a different
place that covers similar information.

If not,

Will it be the webmaster's responsibility to maintain this content or will
there be a person assigned to oversee the task of managing the additions,
deletions and updates that has access to keep the pages updated?

If there will be a person assigned (coordintator), will they be appointed by
the AB?

What about events looking for speakers in a location where there are no
volunteers listed?

What about other volunteer activities that are not specifically speaking,
such as handing out brocures or information at an event?

Thanks,
Cyndie

In the October newsletter I wrote, in part:

"As the USGenWeb Project enters our 12th year, we face many great
possibilities! My hope as your National Coordinator, is to facilitate a
greater presence among the genealogical community of the work that our many
volunteers and contributors do to make -- the USGenWeb Project ... the Land
of Free Genealogy!

Among the ideas is a "speakers bureau" of Project volunteers willing to
speak on behalf of the Project, and to create a place on our national pages
to promote that service to the genealogical community. I have seen such
talent within the USGenWeb Project. PROMOTE!"

I have had our web master do a mock-up of my initial thoughts for these
pages and offer it now to all of you to discuss.

http://www.usgenweb.org/education/speakers/

Thank you Linda for your work on these pages.

Additional considerations are:

-- How does a Project member submit his/her own name or idea?, and to whom.

-- The feasibility of this being a joint service [clearinghouse of sorts]
with Genealogical, Historical Societies on state or local levels.

Discussion and other considerations please.

Tina
