I have a bit of a problem that maybe someone would have the knowledge to help
me with.
I have never been able to find my father-in-law's naturalization. He
enlisted in the regular army January 25, 1908. On his enlistment papers he
states he immigrated February 1901. However, I have been unable to find
this. Now, to enlist in the regular army, wouldn't he have to naturalize at
the time, or at least before. He was discharged in 1911 and you would think
that by now he would have to have naturalized. Yet in 1918 he registered as
an alien in the MN Alien Registration. I have just found that there are some
kind of naturalization papers for his wife that I have to run down to the
History Museum to get, but nothing for him. Since they were married at the
time, I figure that the fact that the papers are only for her, that means
that he must already be naturalized, especially since I did find the notice
of intent for both made out in 1918.
