If you are just relying on family lore, or undocumented
genealogies, you really need to start from scratch! Assume
nothing :-) So just start looking for his place of birth
first (it may be found on his petitions, which as I
mentioned in my last email, will be found in the Upper
Canada Land Petitions if they exist)

It can't be, it must be his father. ThisThaddeus died in
1818, aged 82 making his date of birth circa 1736.
Your Thaddeus was, you said, born in the 1770s.

I wasn't disputing that he's a Loyalist, I was explaining
that you need to get the petitons (ALL of them!) for your
Thaddeus (as the son of a Loyalist), his father, his
siblings... everyone in the family.
Each petition will have different information and only by
consulting them all can you be sure you haven't missed an
important find.

Instead of getting it from a library you need to have your
library order it from NAC or Ontario Archives. Read up on
their websites to find out what you need to know to tell
your local librarian.
Failing that, get it at a local Family History Centre.
