The Trent System was not completed until about 1910. The lift lock at
Peterborough was finished in 1904 and next year they celebrate their 100
years anniversary..
I believe the original posting concerned travel by water in the 1850's
Prior to the completion of the locks, the route was primarily used for
logging, hunting and fishing. Because of the arrival of the railways to the
"back townships" in the mid to late 1800's the Trent Canal system was never
used for commerce.
David
Neal,
They could have possibly gone by way of the Trent/Severen Waterway I
believe but I could be wrong.
