Anne,
If you are interested in PALALTINES remember to also include
Pennsylvania on your list. I just returned a book yesterday and I can't
recall the exact name, however, it did give a background to the
conditions in Europe that led up to the mass migration. Such topics as
church reform and the ruthlessness various rulers of Germany, France and
England were covered. It wasn't a pleasant read...beyond an atrocities
we hear about happening in the world today.
Something I found facsinating was that the population of the London area
were not thrilled with the refugees getting food and shelter when they
themselves felt they deserved some handouts. It could have been today!
The books I read all started with 974.
One title I do recall having to do with the era but NOT Palatines was
"Quaker Arrivals At Philadephia 1682-1750 974.8 by Myers.
