Thank you all very much for your responses. I am definitely making
progress! Please see my references at the end of this note.

Esther, please note my comments about Watson as you also have a Watson
HODGSON.

Bob's note was especially helpful:
"16. Thomas Hodgson died Feb.5, 1884 Aged 72 yrs. 6 m's & 18 Days,
A Native of Soulby, Eng./
Ann Brunskill wife of the above died Apr. 16, 1891 Aged 78 yrs."

This is definitely my family. Ann BRUNSKILL was also of Soulby. Soulby is
a small hamlet of about 50 houses in Kirkby Stephen Parish, Westmorland,
England. Robert BRUNSKIL and Tamar ARNISON and their ten children
including Ann and my lines' Matthew (b 1817, Soulby) came to York from
Soulby in 1831.

As you can see using the calculated date of birth for Thomas (18 Jul 1811)
from Bob's transcript of St. Paul's Cemetery, I was able to locate possible
parents for Thomas HODGSON of Thos HODGSON and Mary WATON via a chr. for
Thos HODGSON, 21 Jul 1811 in Kirkby Stephen. Note: that Thomas and Ann
named their 6th child Watson HODGSON (b 1843) so at this point I am
satisfied that I have likely located Thomas's parents. By the way Robert
BRUNSKILL's (b 1783, Soulby) father was Wharton BRUNSKILL (b 1729, Kaber).
Thomas and Ann named their 7th child Wharton HODGSON (b 1845)

PS If anyone ever come across a Wharton BRUNSKILL (b 1828, Soulby - d
1898, Calgary) I would be very, very interested. Wharton was in Tullamore,
Peel Co in 1844 but that is the last primary record I have located for him
until his death in Calgary in 1898. His death registration gives his
occupation as Book-Keeper

Calgary, a native of Thornhill, Ont., aged 70 years. Funeral Sunday.
GEB Note: The BRUNSKILL Brother's Mill was in Thornhill, York Co., Canada
West, (now Ontario).

Most of the names of your Hodgson's are the same as mine (Thomas, Ann,
Robert, John, James, Matthew, Watson, George, Christopher, Mary) which lead
me to think they could be related. I haven't been able to find the
siblings
of my great grandfather, John Ralph Hodgson, b. about 1817 in Adolphustown,
Lennox, Addington, Canada West, and I'm working on that. My John R.
Hodgson
and his father, John Lampton Hodgson (who was born in Durham, England about
1795) were Quakers, but many Quakers changed religions as mine later did if
they moved to an area where no Quaker meeting house was available.

I'm really sorry I couldn't find a positive connection, but let's keep
trying.

Hi Glen, I have the following Hodgson's:
William George Hodgson (son of John Hodgson and Dinah Martin). William
was born about 1872 (so I assume John was born mid 1830's). William
married Margaret A. Shearer August 16, 1899 in Barrie, Ontario and one
of their children were born October 06, 1901 in Virginia Twp., Ontario.
