Subject: Heads of household on old census records
Date: Mon, 7 Feb 2000 09:14:50 EST

I looking through a 1851 census for Saltfleet I found my greatgreat
grandparents. There isn't a column on this census for head of household but
she is listed first. First and last name. She is 22. Her husband is listed
second with ditto marks at last name. He is 20. Then their 1 year old
daughter. Following their names is her father. The thought crossed my mind
that she was owner of the house for whatever reason. Has anyone run across
the wife as the principal person listed on the census?
