By going to Canadian Geographical Names online you will never
need to ask others to do map lookups for you again :-)
GeoNames has a wealth of extra information that will not be
available to you through a lookup.
Naturually you type in your location (A) and receive an answer but
you can also type in a second location (B) to find distances
between A and B.
You can request a list of all towns, cities, villages within a certain
radius of A.
You can ask to view a regional, national or large scale map which
features A
You can obtain complete map co ordinates for A which enables
you to find it easily in an atlas
For eg typing in AMHERST ISLAND brings up 3 hits. There are 3
locations in Canada that match that request. Asking other
subscribers to do a lookup for you, may mean that you only receive
one answer (the one they are most familiar with) and it may not be
the one you want!
So --- I urge everyone to go to this online site rather than ask on
the list for a lookup - you won't be sorry you did.
