Subject: [UPP-CAN] New Pages for Perth County Pioneers and the Origin of Detroit
Date: Thu, 03 Feb 2000 22:44:48 +500
Hi;
I have just loaded new pages for my site. The first is an account
of the Perth County Pioneers who emigrated from Scotland to Perth County
in the 1830s. It includes the a copy of the Breadalbane Muniments,
which are letters written by the Scottish Pioneers to their former Lord
in Scotland, asking for help to build a church. It details the routes
they took to get to Perth County once they landed in North America.
This is a good account of early pioneer routes and hardships, and I wish
to thank Don Holmes for making the copies available to me.
The second page is a complete copy of a text written in 1896 and
published originally in the Detroit News-Tribune. It is entitled
Cadillac's Village and tells the story of the founding of Detroit. It
covers the years 1707-1710, and contains a list of the residents in 1708
as well as a directory of all the people known to have lived or visited
the town in its' first decade. A lot of these names are connected to
the fur trade and to Sandwich, Essex County. Be careful with the
spelling of these names, as many are variants of more common spellings.
I wish to thank Joyce Scott for providing the copy of this brochure to
me. It is a welcome addition to my site.
As usual, these new pages are located at the end of the page of
Early Ontario Records, which is found from a link on my main menu. I
have also taken this opportunity to fix a couple of other mistakes and
ommissions on various of my pages. Bill.
Regards, Bill Martin, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.
