I was wondering, if maybe some of our brickwalls, are brickwalls because
there is something to be hid, or someone were deliberately hiding their
tracks.

Unfortunately, we have not been kind in the past to those with mental
illnesses.
I came into contact with a lady who had searched for years for her
father in laws
aunt.  She knew she existed, but no one would tell her.  I pointed her
in the direction of the county probate court and the records that
explained how she
had been declare insane, from there she was able to find her on the
State Hospital
Census records and even an obit.  She is working on getting a headstone
for the
poor woman who's family could have easily afforded one for her at the
time of
her death.

We are much more open minded about it now, I think because we have a
better
understanding than they did in 1879.  I am in no way ashamed of my
cousin who
suffered from brain damage at birth, I rejoice in his accomplishments,
my uncle
who was "not the same man" he was when he joined the army during WWII as
he came back was not and will not be an embrassment to me.

But poor Mary Belle Martin, lay hidden from view, someone's brickwall
for years.
