Our regular May meeting will be held at 2 p.m. (please notice time change)
at the Edmondson Pike Branch of the Nashville Public Library. Join Maury
County Historian Bob Duncan as his band of frontier Tennessee
farmboys-turned-sailor-and-navigator float their "flatboats" on winter flood
waters swiftly by river pirates to Natchez, and trade their surplus farm
produce for hard cash. After a brief respite at that "Gomorrah on the
Mississippi," Natchez-under-the-hill, trudge homeward with them over the
dark, lonely and often deadly Natchez Trace. Based on his research and
popularly acclaimed columns in the Columbia Daily Herald, Duncan unfolds
this adventure in early commercial traffic, establishment of a pioneer
market, and access to hard currency, all so crucial to the early growth and
maturity of Tennessee communities.
We look forward to seeing you.
