Dickson County Rootsweb List Members:

Thank you for inquiring today about the new Dickson County Heritage Book. As Marie has posted earlier we are now up and operating. Everyone that is involved with the Dickson County Heritage Book is very excited and we solicit family stories from you. There are several counties in Tennessee that have published local family history books in recent years. This is your chance to participate and tell your family story. We want stories from present residents, former residents and from those that have roots in Dickson County. The committee is working in cooperation with the Dickson County Historical Society on this project. We want stories from people of all walks of life from the bank president, company executive to the farmer and the man that worked on the assembly line. Each family may submit a 500 word story about their family plus one photo free. Additional words are ten cents each and additional photos are $12.50 each. If your family settled in the county prior to 1870 you ma!
y submit an additional 500 words with an additional photo free. Additional words above 1000 are ten cents each. Additional photos other than the two free ones are $12.50 each. Walsworth Publishing Company will be the publisher for this project. You may view their web site at: www.Ancestry.TV. From there you may go to links of other county book projects that they have done. Recently the Lincoln County Tennessee Heritage Book was completed and that book was 905 pages of family and topical stories. The initial sales orders were filled, an additional 500 consigned books were sold out in about three weeks and they have had to go back and print an additional 500 copies. From my experience and being a member of several rootsweb list the books are very popular with genealogists.

Family stories consume a large percentage of the print of these books. The Dickson County Heritage Book will also include topical stories. These topics will consist of historical stories about Business / Industries Established Before 1955; Business / Industries After 1955; Century Farms; Church Congregational Histories (many going back to early 1800's); Cities, Towns, Communities (Unincorporated), Cities, Towns (Incorporated); County History; Civic / Service Organizations; Communications; Government / Politicians; Health Care; Historical Homes; Buildings and Landmarks; Law Enforcement; Memorials; Tributes; Monuments and Historical Markers; Historic Photographs; Pre-Dickson County History; Recreation; Schools; Special Events; Transportation; Veterans.

This is your chance to preserve your family history before another generation passes. These stories will be cherished by generations that follow. We all wished we would have questioned grandma or grandpa. A few of us have a small amount of printed history about our families in Goodspeed History but it is few and far between. Let us leave the generations that follow our family stories.

The web site for the Dickson County Heritage Book is: http://www.dicksontnheritage.com/index.htm. The site explains the information needed in submitting stories and making your book orders. There has already been several stories submitted. We have already had several calls, letters, book orders, andemails from all areas of the country. The Dickson Herald and WDKN Radio are both being helpful in local promotions of theprojectt. If you need help or information any of the members on the committee will be glad to assist you. The deadline for story submissions and book orders is June 1, 2006.

Please get involved and send your stories. Please pass this information on to others that have ties to Dickson County that may not belong to this list.
