Just possible giving a few clues as these families traveled as clans, check the census that you found your Folks in and check the neighborhood as they are all related it is just finding out How.
The Famer's is a surname that dates back to Henrico County Va with the Hatcher Families of Willam Hatcher b 1613: As these mentioned below are just a few of his offspring and cousins and In Law connections oh yes I forgetTappy Hudson ( Dickson Co) is also connected as a Hatcher off spring.
To know your neighbor is to know your kinsman
PS Hatcher Family connections to Farmers starts with Henry Framer 1657 York Co. and Hester Bass ( widow): Child Henry Farmer married Sarah Ward: Daughter of Edward Ward and Elizabeth Elam:
Edward Hatcher son of William Hatcher b 1613 married Mary Ward daughter of Seth Ward and Katherine Smith:
Elizabeth Elam daughter of Gilbert Elam married Edward Ward son of Richard Ward and Elizabeth Shackon: Grandson of Seth Ward and Katherine Smith
Farmers off Henry Farmer and Mrs Bass are also cross connected to the Cheatham- Chathams line in Dickson Co: Elam Farmer 1718-1725 married Phebe Chetham daughter of Benjmain Cheatham and Grace Williams; Benjamin Cheaham 1693- 1767 is son of Thomas Cheatham whose other son THomas Cheatham Jr married Tabitha Marie Osborne whose daughter Ann Elizabeth Chetham married Josiah Hatcher whose son William Hatcher married Jane Lindsey Mayo coming straight back down to me and my Cousin Peg Johnson

Tony,
I have just started researching a Samuel Farmer of Giles Co., TN. He was b. in NC around 1797 and his wife was Nancy McCanless. Their daughter, Susan Caroline b. @ 1821, is my ancestor.
By chance are we both interested in the same Farmers?
