I have not researched these men to any great extent So....my some comments
here are without verification.
According to the Memorandum of Anne DICKSON WATSON (dau. of Michael DICKSON
and granddaughter of Capt. Joseph DICKSON) her Uncle William DICKSON never
married. On this web site I have previously referenced this document which we
are continuing to find to be very accurate. There are still unresovled
conflicts but for those we've be able to resolve...the memorandum has proven
to be correct every time.
Keep in mind that Anne knew most of her uncles and aunts who had moved to
Alabama. She probably lived near them and had frequent contact. She would not
have had as close a relationship with her Uncles David or Molton who remained
in TN.
One of the unresolved conflicts I'm going to cover in some detail later. That
has to do with the wives of Joseph DICKSON, Jr. Nesbitt says Joseph, Jr.
married 1st. Martha Jane McNAIRY. Anne didn't know her first name probably
since that wife died early. She just knew the last name "McNAIRY".
Nesbitt says the second wife was Mary HAMILTON. Anne says the name was Mary
SMITH. Of course, it could be the same person listed once with her maiden name
and once with her married name (i.e. perhaps a widow).
I'm not going into detail here. I will later when I do my post about Joseph
DICKSON, Jr.
Nesbitt names the children of Joseph DICKSON, Jr. as John H., David, Wiliam, &
Hamilton.
Anne DICKSON WATSON names the children of Joseph DICKSON, Jr. as David,
William, Hamilton, McNairy, Jane, Mary Ann & John.
Personally I believe the list from Anne will be proven more correct.
If you would like more information about Joseph DICKSON, Jr. I would be happy
to have a descendent currently researching that line to contact you by email.
Let me know. I would also be interested in any DICKSON family information you
could share with me. Our DICKSON Family research group can always use new
contributors if you have any interest in joining!
Just Curious...do you know anything about Jonas SPICER who was one of the men
captured at the Irish Shanty in Dickson County and put on trial as a guerrilla
during the Civil War?
