Faye, I thank you so much for the information you sent on Christopher Strong.
It looks like he couldn't have a grandson named Christopher Strong Stewart,
but I wonder if he could have a nephew by that name? Perhaps his sister
married a Stewart and named her son after her brother. This man, Christopher
Stewart, who signed his named "Christopher Strong Stewart" would have been a
stepfather to two teenage boys in 1807. I need to study the Stewarts in the
area.
I think the William Allen who lived on Yellow Creek and was from GA was not
the same man as William Allen from Williamson Co. who bought land in Dickson
Co. in 1811. Let me tell you the facts about my William Allen, and I would
appreciate any opinions that you could offer.
My William Allen was born in the 1750's in NC. He married Keziah Anders, and
their first child was born in GA in 1782. Their second child was born in TN
and all children up to 1799. The children born between 1800 and 1803, we are
not sure about. Anyway, Keziah Allen died in the early 1790's, and William
Allen remarried to Hannah Pride in East Tennessee, and their first son was
born around Blount Co. in 1797. By 1805, William Allen and all his children
were in Wilkinson Co. MS, and within the next few years, he moved down to St.
Helena Parish, LA, which had been Spanish West Florida. His son, Nathaniel,
moved there a few years before he did, when it was still in Spanish hands.
Okay, all his children b. 1785-1799 said they were born in TN on census
records, so I feel quite sure he had to be there during those years. He had to
have gotten land from NC. I have those records, and he bought 640 acres on the
west side of Yellow Creek. Archibald Allen bought 640 acres next to him on
Yellow Creek, and Sarah Allen bought 640 acres (from the same man who sold
William his)on the Cumberland. This land fell into Montgomery Co. when
Tennessee Co. was disbanded. All three of these Allens were on the 1800 list
of Montgomery Co. citizens who didn't pay their taxes. Then, Archibald and
William's land fell into Dickson Co. when it was formed....not sure about
Sarah. Only Archibald and William's names were on the 1805 of Dickson Co.'s
taxpayers who didn't pay. I think they didn't pay their taxes, because they
were gone. But, they were still in TN, over near Knoxville,William showing up
in a list of those people who had squatted on Indian land in Grainger Co.
Okay, so then I find two young boys in Spanish West Florida records, orphaned,
named Archibald and William Allen, born in the 1790's. I thought Archibald
(possible brother to my William) had died, and these were his children. I made
note of their stepfather's name. Then, when I was looking in Dickson Co.
records, I found Christopher Strong there.
Do you have any evidence that the William Allen from Williamson Co. is the
same one who applied for the land on Yellow Creek in 1785? My William had come
up from Georgia that very year, and that deed did say William Allen on Yellow
Creek was from Richmond co. GA. Let's discuss this via our e-mail addresses,
so we don't take up so much space on this site. I don't think this would be of
interest to others. Thanks! Connee
