I looked up Wiley Myatt Russell in Tennesseans in the Civil war, not listed on
either side. on Confederate side 4 W.M. Russells listed: 3rd cavalry, 11th
Cavalry, 28th Infantry, 6 cavalry. The 3rd & ll Calvary combied so probably
the same man. A few men at least in 11th Cav were from Dickson and Williamson
Counties. 28th in and 6 cav from upper cumberland area. also a L.S. Russell is
listed as Private in Co D. 49th Tn Infantry, a Dickson Co unit. a lot of men
went by their initials during the war, makes tracing hard. A copy of service
records could answer questions as to age and place of enlistment, etc. Some
records are prety complete, some not so good, well it's a start any way.
