Hi Caroline - Yes, these are my Turners. And, yes again, it is amazing just
how often our families were in the same place at the same time. We may
find that we are related after all.
The Teas and Gilmore families are my mother's people and the Turner
connection is my father's family. The Turner's married into my father's
huge Curtis and Trogdon families of Humphreys county who then married
into the even bigger Andersons of Hickman Co.
John Turner (the preacher) and his wife Elizabeth Dillard were in Dickson
County very early. They are both buried in a small cemetery (I believe it is
called the Choate Cemetery) located behind the McClurken home on
Yellow Creek. John and Elizabeth Dillard Turner had at least 7 children
including Howard W, Samuel and George (from whom I descend).
George was born in 1780 and he married Susanna Adams who was born
in 1782. Susanna Adams was a daughter of Richard Adams and his wife
Hanna Boyd.
George Turner's second wife was the Edny Toler Lewis, and I hope
someone out there will help me on her. By 1850 George and Edny Turner
are living on Richland Creek in Humphreys County.
I descend from Richard Dillard Turner, who was one of the sons of
George and Susanna Adams Turner. Richard Dillard Turner first married
Sallie Finch and became the father of 14 children. He then married Mary
Jane White Tubb (a widow from Humphreys County) and they had 3 more
children. At her death he then married Mary Gilmore Robertson. She was
the widow of David Robertson.
When Richard Dillard Turner was 80 years old in 1886 he had 180
grandchildren and 80 great grand children.
I descend through his daughter Elizabeth Jane who married James W.
Curtis and they became the parents of my great grandmother.
There were several Richard Turner's so I am not sure if more than one
Mary Gilmore married a Richard Turner. I would be interested in knowing
that.
So many of my ancestors lived for years on Yellow Creek. I almost feel I
belong there. Any little farms for sale????
Regards,
Susy
