Dear Nettye,
There was a WILLIAM STEWART!!! I hope this is your guy!!!
Here's what it said---
DANIEL CHAMBERS--obtained a preemption of 640 acres of lany lying on the
South Side of Cumberland River 1 and 1/2 miles from JOnes improvement down
the river beggining about 100 poles from an old cabbin thet is on the river
and running wouth and west as the law directs to include an old cabbin made
by WILLIAM STEWART!
WILLIAM STEWART-- obtained a preemption of 640 acres of land lying on the
east side of Stones River to join the public lands on the South side and to
extend from thence up the river for quantity.
WILLIAM STEWART--obtained a rpeemption of 640 acres of land lying on Spring
Creek about 5 miles from Cumberland River to include a spring and a tree
marked TF April 1780, the spring on the east side of the said creek , to
include th spring near the middle of the tract.
The expedition against the Chicamauga in 1787 has Thomas and Robert Stewart,
no county listed as paid in May 1780. It has WILLIAM STEWART listed in what
was at that time Davidson County paid on 1/13/1790.
I wonder if it was your William that built the cabbin and then moved on to
one of those other tracts , where he was found living at the time the
appointee's arrived?? If it was your guy then he must have at least once in
his life talked with Anthony Bledsoe who built the fort at Fort Bledsoe on
the east side of Nashville and fought the indians there on several
occasions, he must have been an interesting guy!
Have a great day!
Caroline
