It is nice to get a glimpse of how our ancestors lived, but it is nice to get all of our 'necessities' back too.

Hello out there!
The snow storm here in middle Tennessee has given me a glimpse, I think,
of a few things of pioneer life! If I had to hook a
horse up to get to town in 6 or 7 inches of snow, I might consider
just doing without! Going to town in that much snow took long enough in a
truck and not to mention nerve wracking to worry if I might slide off into
the creek! ( and I didn't even have to worry about unfriendly Indians!).
When you wake up and it's 15 degrees outside and you don't have any running
water in the house (froze up, for the first time in all of the years we've
been here!) it sure does look like a long walk to the creek with a bucket!
Luckily, my husband fixed us back up in no time). That's just a couple of
things! But, it sure does lend a little respect for the people that carved
this place out of the wilderness !!!! When I look down the road at the old
log house Matthew Gilmore built circa 1795, I think what a laugh he would
probably have at our pitiful attempts to survive the brief periods of time
we have without modern appliances! Well, maybe some of ya'll would get a
laugh too!!!
Have a great day!
Caroline
